Asda shoppers on the Isle of Wight have helped Cowes Sailability Club to raise £500, by voting for the charity in the store’s Green Token Giving scheme.  Of the three charities promoted by Asda’s Newport branch between June and September 2022, Cowes Sailability Club attracted the most votes, earning it the first prize and the top donation available.

The £500 cheque was presented by Asda Community Champion Clare Jones at a coffee morning organised by Cowes Sailability Club for its members and volunteers.  “I was given a lovely warm welcome by members of Cowes Sailability Club when I went along to present them with the cheque,” Clare said.  “Cowes Sailability Club is such a worthwhile local charity, and I am delighted to be able to boost its fundraising with a donation from the Asda Foundation.”

Receiving the cheque, Roger Sutton, Commodore of Cowes Sailability Club, said: “What a wonderful result!  I am incredibly grateful to all of the people who voted for us and enabled us to win the top donation.  This result really shows that the Isle of Wight community understands the value of the activities we provide for disabled people on the island and is keen to help us expand our reach.”

The Asda Green Token Giving scheme is run by Asda’s charity, the Asda Foundation.  Every year around £1 million is invested in local communities through the initiative.
