Final preparations for the sailing season have been completed with some welcome funding from a Magic Little Grant.

Volunteers at Cowes Sailability Club have been busy preparing the charity’s three Drascombe Longboats, to get them ready for use by people with disabilities on the Isle of Wight.  This process, known as ‘fitting out’, has involved pressure washing the hulls, rubbing down and oiling the woodwork and reassembling the masts.

In addition, Cowes Sailability Club has had all of its life jackets checked and serviced.  This vital safety procedure was funded by a Magic Little Grant, awarded through the partnership between Localgiving and Postcode Society Trust, a grant-giving charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

“The support we receive from Localgiving and the Postcode Community Trust really is magic!” exclaims Trish Rooke, Fundraising Officer at Cowes Sailability Club.  “Getting our life jackets serviced is an absolutely essential task that we need to undertake every year, to help us ensure the safety of the disabled people and volunteers who take part in our sailing and boating activities.”

All of Cowes Sailability Club’s twenty-six life jackets were serviced professionally by SeaSafe Systems, a company that specialises in marine safety clothing and marine safety products.  Based in Cowes, the company has been manufacturing and servicing life jackets and other safety equipment for over 50 years.
