Little Britain Challenge Cup

Organisers of the Little Britain Challenge Cup have continued their long-standing support of Cowes Sailability Club with a donation from the proceeds of the 2020 event.

Despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, organisers of the Little Britain Challenge Cup still managed to hold a small charity sailing event last year for companies in the construction industry.  The regatta raised funds for several sailing-related charities including Cowes Sailability Club.

“Cowes Sailability Club has been a beneficiary of the Little Britain Challenge Cup for many years, and we are incredibly grateful to the organisers of this event for their long-standing support,” says Paul Wilks, Commodore of Cowes Sailability Club.  “As a small charity, every donation we receive from Little Britain makes a big difference and helps us to make boating and sailing accessible to adults and children with disabilities.”

Cowes Sailability Club received £500 from the 2020 event, which will be used to help cover the running costs for the club’s two Drascombe Longboats, small sailing boats that are ideal for people with limited mobility or poor vision.  Raised by the participants of the regatta, the money will pay for the servicing of the two outboard motors and contribute towards other maintenance costs.

Nick Covell, Chairman of the Little Britain Challenge Cup, commented: “The property and construction industries in the UK came together again in a most difficult year to be able to support our event’s sailing charities. Our partners Sunsail Events UK, with the hard work of our volunteer committee, were able to deliver an amazing day on the water supported by our sponsors Asite and the companies that were able to enter. We are extremely proud to be associated with the amazing work Cowes Sailability does and we look forward to supporting them for many more years.”

The Little Britain Challenge Cup will next take place on 10-11 September 2021.  Find out more at: www.littlebritain.co.uk.
