Inns of Distinction shows its support for disabled sailing on the Isle of Wight with a charity auction in aid of Cowes Sailability Club.

The Isle of Wight pub group, Inns of Distinction, has raised £3,320 for Cowes Sailability Club with a charity auction held at The Fishbourne.  Guests at the event bid generously for a huge variety of lots, ranging from a magnum of champagne to a Mediterranean cruise.

“We are incredibly grateful to Inns of Distinction for organising a charity auction and are both astounded and delighted by the amount raised,” says Patrick de Peyer, Commodore of Cowes Sailability Club.  “The funds will go towards the purchase of a new boat, to enable us to offer more trips on the water for island people with physical disabilities, learning difficulties and long term, debilitating medical conditions.”

He adds, “The Fishbourne was a fitting venue for the event as Cowes Sailability Club was originally founded over fifteen years ago by a group of people who were members of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club in Fishbourne.  Several Fishbourne residents still volunteer with Cowes Sailability Club, and it was great to see so many local people supporting our charitable work.”

Martin Bullock, the proprietor of Inns of Distinction, says, “We have been delighted to support the great work done by Cowes Sailability with our charity auction night at The Fishbourne.  We were aware of the history of the charity, its inception and continuing links to the Royal Victoria Yacht Club in the village, so we could think of no better local organisation to lend our support to.  We hope to repeat the success of the auction evening with more events in the future.”

The Inns of Distinction group comprises three pubs on the Isle of Wight: The Fishbourne in Fishbourne, The Boathouse in Seaview and The Spinnaker in Bembridge.
